Blog 18: Third Answer

  • EQ: What is most important to a user-friendly app?
  • Answer #3 : The most important thing to a user-friendly app is good usability.
  • 3 details to support the answer (a detail is a fact and an example)
  • Detail 1: Usability is the ease of use of the application. EG: How easy you can navigate through the app.
  • Detail 2: A first impression is largely composed of how much usability the app has.
  • Detail 3: The usability determines if a user will decide to pick your app out of the competition.

  • Concluding Sentence: Usability is key to creating a user-friendly app because it determines how easy the app is to operate and use.

Senior Project, The Holiday

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you over the break with your senior project?

Over the break I did some research on apps and what makes them user friendly and why. Since Cal Poly was on break I did not work on my mentorship. I also talked to some family and asked then what they thought was important in a user friendly app.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did and why?  What was the source of what you learned?

I found out that it is very important for the user to be able to achieve their primary task on the app on the first try. A lot of companies will not put their app out on the market until they do several tests and checks to make sure that the app is very accessible to the client. This is one of the sources that I used: http://www.aqabatech.com/article.php?article=331
3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers of your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

I would probably talk to my mentor Tim Raymond up at Cal Poly because he is very informed on the different software and is currently developing an app for Cal Poly himself.

EQ

1. "I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."

2.

A. What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?

This fits the criteria quite well because you can definitely go in depth in research to find out the different methods and which is the best. It also takes a stance because it is very easy to argue. Even people today spend a lot of time arguing what they believe is the best. It is also very specific because it uses words like "healthy" and "factor". If it just said weight loss, it would open the doors to many other methods.

B. What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?

This allows for in depth research but is a little more vague. You could take a stance and argue the different sides of what is the most important way to secure a conviction. Although, it is not as specific because it doesn't say what part they are talking about. For example if they said "during the trial", or what part of the criminal investigation.

C. What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?

This is difficult to meet criterion 1 because everyone has their own opinion on what hairstyle they want. It would be hard to answer this E.Q. because it focuses more on the client instead of the person doing the hair. It definitely takes a stance because many people are looking for the right hairstyle that they want. It is easily argued by different people because they have different opinions.

D. How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?

This meets the rule of 3 because it definitely provides in depth studies. There is a lot of research that you would have to go through and medical papers that are very in depth within themselves. It also takes a stance because many people believe there are different methods that are the most important. Finally, it is also very specific in what they are talking about. They talk about "chronic pain" instead of only pain.

3.
What is most important to create your own successful webpage?
What is most important to create an affordable and successful software?
What is the most important programming language to learn to be valued in the I.T. Department?

Title: Research and Working EQ

Content:

1.  What is your working EQ?

What are the most important learning requirements to become a software engineer?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.

  • One of the most important learning requirements would be the knowledge of many different programming languages. This would allow the worker to more beneficial to a company because they can work on many different areas of work.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?

My most important source would be talking to my mentor and his coworkers because they are actually in the field and they understand.

4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?

Tim Raymond, Cal Poly Pomona. This relates to my working EQ because they are in the systems and applications department at CPP and are working on projects similar to what I plan to do.

Blog 5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

While working at Cal Poly with my mentor, I have started to understand the world of IT more. When people talk about different software and applications, even if I don't exactly know what they are, I understand what they do. For example, during my mentorship my mentor was trying to purchase some middle ware so they could pull information from the middle ware that was connected to all of the databases instead of directly into the databases. At first, I had no clue what he was talking about, but as they talked about it more and more, even though I did not full understand what it was, I understood what the purpose of it was.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

My interview has helped me understand why I want to be in this field of work. At first, I picked it because it was in the family business and I figured why not. After my interview, I realized that I actually enjoy this kind of work and I fit the characteristics of someone in this line of work. For example, I realized that I would enjoy the atmosphere of the IT work environment. I enjoy how everyone is friendly, and work on projects together, but also work a lot independently on their part and come together at the end.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

So far in the senior project, my mentorship has really worked out good for me. I was lucky to have Tim as my mentor because he is very good at answering any questions I have. I can go to him after school and it is very convenient because he is not too far away. I really enjoy mentoring with him because he makes the whole experience enjoyable like when we go on meetings, he is very casual, but still professional.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

What hasn't worked so far and finding research that i fully understand. A lot of my articles are very in depth and confusing for me. Sometimes, they get very technical and it is hard for me to keep up. For example, some of my research talks about certain programs and technology that I have never heard of. The problem is that there are so many different languages and programs out there, that it is impossible to know them all.

(5) Finding Value:
  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
What are the most important learning requirements to become a software engineer?
  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
  •  I plan to work up at Cal Poly with the IT team to be my mentor for the Senior Project. Specifically Tim Raymond.

2013 2-Hour Presentation Reflections

Literal:

1. Domestic Violence - Taryn
Disease Prevention - Jazmin
Singing Professionally - Jamilex
Radio Production - Alfonso
Voice Acting - Deanna
Parks and Rec. - Isaiah
Solar Cup Competition - Jesse
Theatrical Performance - Danielle
Suicidal Youth - Marissa
Independent Short Films - Yesenia
Wedding Planning - Sydney
Law Enforcement - Jared
Play Therapy - Damaris
Immigration Law - Yareli

2. It seemed to me that all of the presentations i saw were about an hour and some minutes. Is it called the 2-hour presentation because that is how long it is before a different presenter starts? Or is it more for intimidation purposes? What happens if you don't make time during your presentation? How much is the senior presentation worth?(grade wise)

Interpretive:

3. The most important part of the senior presentation that I have seen is to make sure you have enough material to meet the requirements for talking. It is very important to know your topic. I noticed that most of the people that made time easily really knew what they were talking about, and they didn't see it like a presentation, but more of a conversation that they were really interested about. The ones that did not make time seemed like they did not care about their topic or care about their presentation.

Applied

4. I am considering doing something in the computer field. Maybe something like a software engineer or software developer or something like that. I chose this field because I already know a bit about it because my mom works in the field. She works in IT at Cal Poly so I get to see what she does sometimes after school. The only thing I am worried about is that I would get bored with the topic, or it might be boring in general to myself or others.
